The University of Bologna has a long history and is regarded as the oldest university in the Western world. It is a cornerstone and a point of reference for European culture, and its history is entwined with those of the great names in literature and science.Today, the Alma Mater leads the way in innovation in a number of areas, including its global perspective, research, program catalog, information services, and presence across the country.The University of Bologna comprises thirty-one departments.
Eleven interdepartmental research and/or training facilities are also present, along with seven interdepartmental research centers.
98 libraries and facilities assist teaching, research, professional, and cultural activities in addition to education by offering bibliographic and documentary services. Fifteen museums and collections representing a range of fields make up the University Museum Network.
